Verse 12 says, “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,”
We all know that the Religion is spelled DO while the Gospel is spelled DONE.
But how come this passage of scripture is telling us to “work out” our salvation with fear and trembling?
Isn’t it that the bible tells us that our works are like filthy rags before God’s eyes?
Aren’t we saved by grace through faith? And our salvation is not by our works? (Ephesians 2:6-8)
The problem is, we stop right away when we see some hints of things we believe we ought to do.
Most of the time we are more excited and enthusiastic about the things that we could offer or do to/for God. At times you’re probably like me,we tend to read the Bible selectively that sometimes we forget that there’s another verse after it.
verse 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
Boom! I don’t know about you but for me it just eye-opening. This is all making sense now. All this time the bible is not just about rules, to-do lists but the character of God.
The Bible reveals to us Jesus himself. What he has done, currently doing, and the things he is about to do. It gets you excited for greater things?
What the Gospel will keep on reminding you is that it is DONE for you. You have no more contribution with my salvation except your sin. Stop wrestling, surrender and let him arrest our hearts. Apart from him we are nothing. We have nothing to prove, nothing to boast. He will never stop until He makes us Crazy in Love with Him.
It should no longer be Us but Christ living in us.(Galatians 2:20).
Let’s continue allowing Him, Jesus, do His work on, in and through our lives!
